Outdoor Survival-Camp Castle Rock, Butte (6-12)
Date: September 26, 2014 07:00 PM-September 28, 2014 12:00 PM (Registration Closes at 11:59 PM ET on September 12, 2014)
Facility Location: Camp Castle Rock
Butte, MT
Description: Back by popular demand, Outdoor Survival at Camp Castle Rock will test your outdoor skills. During this interactive camping event, girls will learn about techniques that could save their lives. Instructors will discuss orienteering, fire building, survival techniques and more. Girls will also put together a personal survival kit they can take home. This event will cover winter survival skills too!Girls check in Friday after dinner and spend the evening getting acquainted while doing hands-on classes on First Aid, fire building and fire starting techniques, knots, knife safety, shelter building, and much more. On Saturday, girls will split into groups to learn orienteering and build a shelter that they can choose to spend the night in. Program cost includes all meals (except dinner Friday) and survival kit materials.

Because of the nature of this training and the seriousness of the topic, this program is only open to girls in 6th grade and up. Supervising adults are welcome. Camp begins at 7 p.m. Friday, September 28 and runs through noon on Sunday, September 30.

Outdoor Survival 1 – Missoula (Grades K-5)
Date: October 25, 2014 10:00 AM-01:00 PM (Registration Closes at 11:59 PM ET on October 10, 2014)
Description: Outdoor survival skills can not only save your life, but they can prepare you for tough circumstances in the wild and in day-to-day situations. GSMW and Missoula Parks & Recreation join forces again to provide girls with a program to change the way girls venture into the wilderness. Through a creative treasure hunt format, professional instructors will teach girls the following skills:
• Emergency fire starting
• Map & compass/navigation
• GPS Geocaching
• Animal tracking
• Shelter building
• Dutch oven cooking
In addition, girls will learn basic wilderness first aid and put together a personal survival kit they can take home. Girls will also get to eat their Dutch oven creations and earn a “Survival Skills” fun patch.
This is a great event for friends! Girl Scouts can register their “new-to-Scouts” friends and earn a “Bring a Friend” patch. Please call Sarah for information on registering friends: 1.800.736.5243 x2306.

World of Destinations – Missoula (Grade 4-Adults)

Description: A Girl Scout Destination is your chance to go somewhere new, do something different, and meet people from everywhere you can imagine! Through Girl Scouts, girls are given the chance to travel to destinations across their state, the US, and overseas!Join us for a fun, engaging event that will teach you all you need to know and more about the different destinations. Along with the locations and approximate prices, you’ll learn where other girls have gone and what they’ve done. You’ll play games and hear stories. Plus, you’ll learn how you can apply for a destination through Girl Scouts and how you can afford a destination. Girls ages 11 to 18 can apply for these travel opportunities. Not yet that age? It is never too early to start planning and saving.Don’t be intimated by the price of a destination. There are a handful of travel scholarships available to fund your experience! You can also raise money for your destination in many ways including, but not limited to, nuts, magazines, and cookies.

Girls are encouraged to bring an adult with them and also a friend. Friends do not need to be a registered Girl Scout to attend.  Please call Sarah to reserve your spot:  1.800.736.5243 x2306. Current Girl Scouts can register through eBiz.

The event will be held in the large meeting room on the bottom floor of the Missoula Public Library.  Girl Scouts will provide a light snack.
