Journey Through Girl Scouting: 1972 – 1991

When: Friday, Jul 13-15, 2012
Where: Fort Missoula
Time: All Day Event
Cost:  $20 early bird price/girl (ends May 31), $25/girl, $5/adult
Register by: June 22, 2012

The 5th of 6 Journeys inspired by our founder and trailblazer Juliette Gordon Low honoring a century of Girl Scouting. Girl Scouts will discover the 1970′s and 1980′s; this era saw women unite to work towards career equality. A renewed effort was put forward to promote career paths for girls, and women in science. In reflection of these 2 decades, and in celebration of The Year of the Girl! participants will discover their inner ‘Girl Scout in Science’ by exploring areas of Physics, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Architecture, and the world of sound.

This Journey will be held at historic Fort Missoula as a 2 day Girl Scout camp out July 13th, 14th, and 15th. Camping, now considered a Girl Scout tradition, was at our founding considered a ‘boy activity’. This is a complete Girl Scout camp out experience. Attendees will be responsible for their own meals and must bring all necessary supplies to camp out over night, including their own tent. No open fires will be allowed. Approved camp cooking gear may be used in a designated area. Fathers may attend with their daughters, but must stay in their own tent with only their child or in their own tent alone — they may stay in the troop campsite area. All overnight participants must be registered Girl Scout members including adults. Girl Scout day trippers are welcome and must be registered for the event, girl day attendees must be registered Girl Scouts (12$ membership fee). Please no tag-a-longs as we cannot accommodate them. There will be a check-in and check-out process for campsites to ensure we leave no trace.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the Historic site with docents on hand to answer questions. Fort Missoula includes a museum, iris garden, Sliderock lookout, locomotive, and much more. Participate in interactive booths, run experiments in science, play games, sing, learn new songs to sung at the final event in Cheyenne WY August 18th and 19th, and make new friends!

Friday July 13th check in will be from 4-6pm, activities will run from 7-9. Saturday Check-In will be from 7-9am, activities will begin at 9am with scheduled and unscheduled time throughout the day ending at 9pm for younger levels. Older Girls will be allowed to stay up later both nights for special activities. 11pm to 7am is quiet time throughout the camp. A complimentary bandana will be provided for all participants. Please wear this throughout the event to identify yourself as an Girl Scout event participant.

This event is open to girls in all grades and supervising adults.
